Asheville Insider Tips

Happy Canada Day!

We would like to wish all of our Canadian guests a very happy Canada Day! In honor of Canada Day, I am sharing my insider info on some of Asheville’s favorite delights! {As featured in Air Canada’s EnRoute magazine ~ page 53!}

Inside scoop: Asheville is a delicious town! When Jasmin Legatos (the writer of this fun article on Asheville) visited us I had a hard time talking about anything other than the rainbow of flavors in Asheville. I confess – pretty much all I do is eat! Life is a vacation, and I stand by my assertion that calories do not count in Asheville.

My insider tips on getting the most out of these popular destinations?

Hotel Indigo Asheville Downtown – isn’t it obvious? Email our Asheville Concierge team so that we can prepare a fantastic itinerary – or, just so we can get to know you! We are passionate about truly connecting with our guests so that they get the most out of their Asheville vacation!

Troy & Sons Moonshine Distillery – the best way to enjoy the smooth taste of Appalachian moonshine?
Tour the distillery! My recommendation? Catch a ride with Asheville Brewery Tours, that way you can sip your way through Asheville’s frothy beer scene before a delightful spirit! And yes, Asheville Brewery Tours will cover all of Asheville’s hoppy highlights! Solely interested in liquor? Tours are offered at 5pm and 6pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Or contact our concierge team to arrange a private group tour.

Cúrate – Every time I blink chef Katie Button gets another mention or culinary award. (She is like a friendly

Weeping Angel in that way) Foodies are on fire over her Spanish tapas! Truly I tell you, you want to have our concierge team make your dinner reservations 3 weeks ahead of time, or you want to go for lunch. Believe it or not, the masses have not quite discovered how enchanting a Cúrate lunch or brunch can be.

The Orange Peel – Easily the coolest venue in town, there are a few things you need to know about the Orange Peel:

  1. Have your ID – you must show a valid ID card to get into any performance. 🙂
  2. Alcohol: beer & wine upstairs / liquor downstairs. If you are a liquor drinker, become a member of PULP (downstairs) and relax in luxury between sets.
  3. Shoes – wear comfy shoes. Most shows are standing-room only, and those awesome acoustics are aided by a concrete floor.
  4. Parking – don’t even think about it! If you are staying with us, wander your way through gorgeous downtown Asheville – the walk will only take about 15 minutes! Or take the snazzy new Asheville Bike Taxi!
  5. Tickets: Please allow us to help you purchase tickets in advance. The Orange Peel is a very popular place, and the artists that perform will usually knock  your socks off – so, quite a bit of shows sell out. However, if for some reason  you don’t have tickets and really really want to see a sold-out show – let us know! Our concierge team will do everything we can to get you in!

and last, but certainly not least:

French Broad Chocolate Factory and Tasting Room – allow salivation to commence. If I were to describe heaven, it would look a little like the French Broad Chocolate Factory and Tasting Room. If I were to illustrate the scent of nirvana? I’d say French Broad Chocolate. Visit the factory Saturdays at 2pm for an behind-the-scenes tour of the magic that is the chocolate-making process. Bonus, in-depth chocolate tasting experience. Cost is only $10 and our concierge team would be thrilled to help reserve your spot!
